Spiced Hot Cider


This was another thing we had at our holiday party.  It was popular with the guests because it was gone within an hour after they started showing up.  Flora and I just decided to make this up after reading a few different recipes online and thinking about how we wanted it to taste.  We spiked it with spiced rum to order since it liquor would cook off if you poured it in with all the rest of the ingredients.  This spiced cider isn’t just for the holiday times; it can be enjoyed during the cold winter nights to come.


  • 1 gallon of fresh apple cider
  • 2-3 cups of tea (we used orange tea)
  • 10 cinnamon sticks
  • juice of one orange
  • 1 orange peel
  • 5-6 cloves pushed into orange peel
  • 1 to 2 shots of spiced rum per serving


In a large stock pot, pour the apple cider and place all the ingredients minus the rum.  Heat over medium heat until mixture starts to lightly boil.  Turn heat down to low/almost off.  Ladle into mugs and pour a shot or two depending on how strong the person wants it to be.  Enjoy!
