Smoked Gouda Turkey Cheeseburgers

Standard

Turkey burgers are easy to make and are a healthy alternative to regular beef burgers.  The meat can be seasoned any way you like and the toppings are endless so please feel free to add or delete any of the ingredients to this recipe.  While I was making these burgers, I had another idea for a different turkey burger that I will work on in the near future.

I used dark ground turkey meat because although the ground breast (white meat) is leaner, the dark meat has a little fat in it and holds better as a burger.  You can ask your local butcher if you can have a mix of both ground turkey breast and ground dark meat.  As for the cheese, I wanted to try something different with the smoked gouda but you choose to use a cheese you like but if you follow this recipe I suggest you use a gourmet cheese to go along with the intense flavors in the burger.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb ground dark turkey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, chopped
  • 2 tbs fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1/2 cup crumbled goat cheese
  • salt and pepper for taste
  • smoked gouda cheese
  • nice hearty buns

Put the ground turkey, garlic, onion, rosemary, goat cheese and salt and pepper in a large bowl.

Mix all ingredients well with your hands.

Take about a handful of the ground turkey mixture and form into a patty. If you use 1 1/2 lbs of turkey you should yield about 5 burgers.

Grill burgers until throughly cooked. Added sliced cheese to the top of the burgers about 2-3 minutes before removing from grill to let the cheese melt.

I served with a salad and baked rosemary mashed potatoes.
